Do I need a Category B+E

You are OK on a Category 'B'  car licence if the following applies


If 'C' is equal to or less than 750Kg - and 'C' + 'B' is equal to or less than 4250Kg


If 'C' more than 750Kg but less than 'A' - and 'C' + 'B' is equal to or less than 3500Kg


You will need a 'B+E' car and trailer licence if the following applies


If 'C' is more than 'A'


If 'B' + 'C' is more than 4250kg


Normally it is recommended that the Gross weight (MAM) of the trailer should not exceed 85% of your towing vehicle unladen weight, but you should never go over the manufacturers recommended towing weights for your vehicle


Many 4x4 vehicles are able to tow greater weights, check your handbook for details. Your insurance may be invalid if you tow above the manufactures recommended towing weights, or tow vehicle combinations that are not covered by your licence.
